Catherine is a bank official by profession and has 30 years of banking experience, but Sports has always been her passion. She has been playing Badminton, Football and Netball since the age of 12. She participated in various competitions both locally and internationally where she won various national titles in Badminton and she represented Malta in World/European Championships where she won various ladies doubles and mixed doubles matches, which were her forte. She also took part in various International Mastercard Football competitions representing the bank where she worked. For two years, Catherine also took part in ‘Sportiva tas-Sena’ .
Catherine has also actively participated in the organisation of Clubs. For two years she was vice President at Badminton Malta, she held the position of President for two years at Shuttles Badminton club and was a member of Paola Wolves Badminton Club for various years. She also attended various sports courses held by foreign coaches through Badminton Malta and other courses held by the Malta Olympic Committee at the University of Malta. For the past year she was nominated as Vice President at MESA and wishes to use all her experiences for the ongoing growth of MESA.
Adrian Bonello is a public officer for these past 36 years and is currently employed as a Revenue Inspector within the Commissioner for Revenue. Awarded a Professional Certificate in Taxation from the Malta Institute for Taxation in 2016.
Sporting background is firmly based in football and participated in youth leagues organised by the MFA as well as SSA.
Oliver Mallia has been a Sports Manager at the Institute for Physical Education and Sport at the University of Malta for the past fifteen years. He graduated in management at the University of Malta way back in 2000.
His main responsibilities include:
– day-to-day management of the sports facilities, administering their upkeep and maintenance, and their allocation to students, staff and third parties.
– coordinating the daily duties of the sports attendants entrusted to him.
– responsibility of financial matters at the Institute such as procurement and costings.
– participation of members of staff in various sports activities such as in the Malta Employees Sports Association sports disciplines including athletics, volleyball, badminton, football, and table-tennis amongst others.
Oliver is an ex-football player who played First & Second Division football with the likes of Gzira United, Gudja United and Marsaxlokk Football Club. His hobbies mainly include running (running close to 50K per week), squash, football, reading, listening to music, and travelling. He is also an ex-football coach and has coached for eleven years at B’Kara and San Gwann Youth Football Nurseries respectively.
Oliver has been a MESA committee member with effect from 25th June 2009 and is presently both the Sports Board Committee Chairman and Logistics Officer.
Carmel Formosa is a public officer for these past 30 years and is employed as Manager 1 with the Cleansing and Maintenance Division. He graduated with a Batchelors Degree in Public Administration from the University of Malta in 2019.
His sporting background is firmly based in football where he played with Floriana FC, Hamrun Spartans, Pieta Hotspurs, M’ Xlokk FC, Qormi FC and finally with Zejtun Corinthians. He won all major local leagues from the Premier Division till the Third Division championships including the FA Trophy and the then 2nd/3rd Division KO. He also formed part of the U/21 national football team.
Carmel is currently also serving as a secretary of an amateur football club Zejtun Red Stars AFC competing in the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition.
Aldrin Cassar is an experienced Cargo Agent with a history of working in the airlines/aviation industry for more than 30 years. He is skilled in Operations Management, Responsible Care, Airports, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Event Management. Aldrin is also a Teacher with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Physical Education from University of Malta.
His sporting background is firmly based in football with a playing career spanning from 1980 till 2001. During his career he played with Victoria Hotspurs, Fgura United, Mosta FC, and Zurrieq FC. Personal club honours include 4 Gozo League Championships, 7 Gozo Super Cups, 1 GFA Cup, 1 Gozo Republic Cup, 1 Millenium Cup, 1 MFA 2 nd Division Championship, 1 MFA 2 nd /3 rd Ko Competition. Aldrin Cassar also served as Head Coach in 1995/96 with Hibernians FC Women, Head Coach in 2011/12 with Victoria Hotpurs FC and U/17 Coach with Mellieha FC.
Currently Mr Cassar is also serving as Vice Secretary for Malta Employees Sports Association, a position he has been holding for the past three years. He is also Athletics Malta’s new General secretary.
